Mark 8:29 And he saith unto them, But whom say yes that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
.
Jesus had healed a blind man and Jesus wanted to know what their opinion was about who he was. They started telling him what people had to say about who he was and Jesus said but who do you say that I am? You see that is what matters to you and I who is Jesus to us? I am going beyond what we know the bible has to say about whom Jesus is but who is he to us? Our own personal relationship we have or don’t have with him. Reading a cook book doesn’t make you a cook. Reading a book about how to fix cars does not make you a car fixer. Because you own a bible doesn’t make you a Christian. Because I know Jesus and tell you about him doesn’t mean you know him. We have to have our own personal relationship with our Lord. Peter confessed who Jesus was thou art the Christ. He stated he knew Jesus was the Christ. Jesus earlier had challenged his disciples to deeper discernment. When they had forgotten to take bread Jesus charged them saying beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod. And they reasoned among themselves saying it is because we have no bread. Apparently they had failed to realize from the feeding of the five thousand and from the feeding of the four thousand what Jesus could do. Reading about what Jesus can do is different than knowing what Jesus can do. Who do you say he is? Do you know him as your Lord and Redeemer? Do you have more than just knowledge of what you have read and been told? Or do you have a person relationship with him? Matthew 16:17-19
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
