Installing UI-View, Pmapserver7 and Precision Mapping on a Windows 7 64 bit machine
This install assumes you have a working XP install on another machine, if not, before you upgrade to Windows 7 save your self some hassle, and make "flash card" copies of the home folders of Pmapserver7 and UI-View.
This worked when I first discovered how to do it, and I should be able to help most of you
windows 7 64 bit turned out to be an EASY install.
First : install fresh copy of UI-View
Reboot
Second : from an old working install of UI-View, copy t he entire folder, and copy it directly to the program files (x86) peak systems directory over writing what needs to be over written
Third : copy the entire pmap7 folder to the Peak Systems folder
Install pm7 or 8
1: in order to run precision mapping7 or 8 you will NEED to run as admin, otherwise you get a 'displays.ocx' error. running as admin fixes this.
2: register your pm7-8 if required.
3: close pm8
Register the Pmapserver7.dll AS ADMIN thru a command prompt like this:
1: right click desktop select 'new'
2: make a new shortcut
3: the command to launch should be "cmd"
4: hit enter
5: shift right click and select 'run as admin'
6: hit enter
7: double click and type regsvr32 Pmapserver7.dll
8: enjoy feeling of excitment when it says registered
9: launch UI-View and maps are there. if not you get prompt to tell UI-View where the mapping data is...that's pretty much like last time
EDIT: RUN UI-VIEW.EXE WITH ADMIN RIGHTS
Running with admin rights solves two problems, first being the objects & stations saving to your map when you reboot the program.
Second thing as an after thought, IF you get a really weird box popping up saying your folder is 'read' only, take windows explorer and go to the peak systems folder, right click, and select properties, simply change permissions to read/write for all users, and apply to all folders and sub folders. click ok and it works fine. i have this exact install at home and would be willing to help set up UI-View, pmap7 and Precision Mapping. GPS was a challenge and I'm not familiar with all the gps' on the market to help with all of them.
Mine is a Pharos gps with a Profiliac serial to usb adapter and worked with updating the software by reinstalling drivers for 64 bit vista/7.
I think alot of the gps problems people post are due to trying to use 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit platform. It WILL NOT work.
go to the makers website and look for 64 bit drivers.
