UI-View 32 / UI-NWS Update
I am not sure how people on this site use APRS / UI-View 32 but recently the weather server was taken down. The gentleman who maintained apparently got burned out and quite. The weather server has been reinstalled and is working correctly now but you have to update some information. Please see below (Courtesy of the Ui-View Groups on Yahoo):
"Pete, AE5PL has just gotten the UI-NWS finger function working. It
does not currently provide the text of all NWS products formerly sent by
Dale Huguley's WXSVR server. It seems to do a great job on most of the
warnings Pete is currently sending to the APRS-IS.
This is a work in progress so we need to let Pete work his magic as
time permits. You will likely not be able to finger all warning types at
the present time, so please, don't complain to the list or to Pete when you
discover one not working. Just send any Ui-View finger complaints directly
to me at kc9xg@comcast.net. If you have difficulty modifying the following
files, feel free to post to this list.
Uiview users must modify 2 files before the Ui-NWS Finger will work with
Pete's wx.aprs-is.net :
1. Shut down UiView.
2. Open UiView32.ini with notepad or your favorite text editor.
UiView32.ini contains the following entries:
[WXSVR]
TITLE=WxSvr
FQDN=WxSvr.net
Simply change the FQDN=WxSvr.net entry to
FQDN=wx.aprs-is.net
3. Save the changed UiView32.ini file. Make sure the saved file is
saved using the exact same folder, file name and extension given in the
above instructions.
4. Open UiNWS.ini with notepad or your favorite text editor.
UiNWS.ini contains the following entries:
[WXSVR]
TITLE=WxSvr
FQDN=WxSvr.net
Simply change the FQDN=WxSvr.net entry to
FQDN=wx.aprs-is.net
5. Save the changed UiNWS.ini file. Make sure the saved file is saved
using the exact same folder, file name and extension given in the above
instructions.
6. Restart UiView and UiNWS should start automatically.
7. Once some severe thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings or
tornado warnings appear on your map, right click on them and select Finger
WXSvr from the popup menu. You should get the full text of the NWS product
in a few seconds.
8. Once again, finger may NOT be implemented for all warnings! Futhermore,
some warnings may be expired when you attempt to finger them. These expired
warnings will not be available for viewing.
