Midway Island 2009

The DXpedition to Midway Island will be QRV today Oct 9 through Oct. 19th. The call is K4M. It appears that at this time the team is on hold in Honolulu. Get the latest information, band plans, propagation forcasts and more at their website: http://www.midway2009.com/index.html.
Watch the DX cluster for spots. You can get up to the minute spots here: http://www.dxwatch.com/dxped/k4m/.
Latest spot states they will depart from Hawaii at 1900Z today and head for Midway at that time.
Let us know if you work them and on what bands/modes.

K4M has officially been spotted on all bands and most all modes they said they are going to work. It appears they have everything up and fully functional. As of last night they had their second set of logs uploaded to their website. I haven't heard them much but I did hear them on 80m yesterday and could just barely hear them on 40m this morning. Hopefully we will get a good opening out to that direction real soon.
I have noticed that until this morning they were working mostly in the extra portions of the voice band, when they weren't working CW or the occasional RTTY. Anyway, let's hope we hear them really good and can bust through the pileups and make a good DX contact.

It appears that it's now daytime on Midway Island, and apparently more antennas have been put up. It looks like, according to the cluster, that K4M is now operating voice on 17 meters. The spots on 17 are from all over the US so there's a good chance to work them.
Have fun and good luck. Hopefully they will be on when I get home LOL.

I tried to work K4M this morning on 80 meters as I was hearing them about an S-5 of course the noise floor was pretty close to that as well but I was able to hear them. I wasn't lucky enough to bust through though and I didn't have much time to give it an honest and concerted effort as I eventually had to get ready for work.
But it's all good. They are QRV until Oct. 19th and there is still plenty of time and better conditions ahead.
They are still working on getting another antenna or two up so they can put more stations on the air on more bands so continue to look for them and good luck.

The crew is on the island and has started making contacts. Right now they have only been working CW on 20 meters and 30 meters. The latest new I saw was that once the day breaks on Midway today they will get the rest of their antennas up to work more bands. Until then it's just 10.104 and 14.024 and they are listening up.
For the lates spots check the following: http://www.dxwatch.com/dxped/k4m/
Of course be aware of the lids on the cluster. There have been some false spots since yesterday.

The Midway Island DXpedition group arrived on Midway at 0700 UTC. They are to start setting everything up at day break. It appears that the day has just started over there just a little bit ago, so this evening we should start seeing legitimate spots on the cluster.
Good luck in chasing Midway K4M everyone.

I just checked and it appears that the crew is now on their way to the island. The airplane they chartered had an oil leak and it has finally been corrected. According to http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N8E, The flight is scheduled to take off at 9:17pm EST this evening. The flight should take 5 - 6 hours putting the crew on the island around 3:00am EST this morning. I would guess that they would be on the air sometime tomorrow afternoon for sure.
Good luck in the DX chase for this.
If anyone works them or hears them please let us know.

P.S. For other DX News and Updates I found the following website: http://dx-hamspirit.com/. A very good site for all of us DXer's out there.
In my review, it appears that the Midway DXpedition is still on hold in Honolulu, Hawaii due to airplane troubles. Hopefully they will be able to get out there soon. Sure would like to get KP4 in the log.
