About the 470 ARG

The 470 Amateur Radio Group, are those who participate on the 145.470 WB4GBI repeater. We enjoy some of the great benefits that ham radio offers by preserving amateur radio in it's truest forms. To help provide public service when called upon by the community, emergency communications when requested, to pass any and all forms of traffic and most importantly help those who want to learn more about Ham Radio.

No matter if young or old or what license class you may hold please come and enjoy the camaraderie of those on the frequency but most of all we want you to have fun and enjoying one of the greatest hobbies in the world with us.

Our History:

The 470 ARG was formed to bring all licensed amateurs together once a week to say hello and to join in on topics and discussions pertaining to amateur radio and current affairs... it was started at the Ten Tec Ham fest in 2007 among several who always got together in several states to rag chew and find out how each was doing.,then was actually started in November of 2007 on a weekly basis,the founders of the 470ARG,Rick Sr., Russell,Boyd,Ray,Clyde,Dallas,Tony, Bo, John and Jose,Burt,Tim are what started this great group,also thanks to the repeater owner Tim Berry of the 145.470 repeater, WB4GBI, as without this repeater and all the great people who take part,it has progressed into a weekly net that has had as many as 127 check in's and went over 4 hours in one net..known in several states as East Tennessee's largest independent net,and most friendliest repeater to get what ever information that you may need...

Since the beginning we have helped old and new ham's, helped in emergencies, brought 3rd party traffic on board so that hopefully we could help that person become a ham,if she or he wished, we have the Presidents Volunteer Service Award Program in place that is given away twice a year, with a medal and letter from the United States President, thanking them for their service to ham radio and the community, have worked several special events and have many more in place for the 470ARG, bring together upcoming events so everyone is aware of,Russell KF4LIA does the invocation at the beginning of the net,with Anthony as a backup, and Danny KI4YCJ has a great trivia session towards the end, we talk about technical issues, antenna's ,radio, and lots of amateur things, but most of all to bring the great fellowship between operators, and their families...

We have a family style net, its for all, so hope that you will come and join us if you never have and if you have please come back, your always welcome on the 145.470 repeater high above Cross Mountain TN, about 20 miles north from Knoxville Tn. This repeater covers TN, KY, VA, GA, and NC and further from time to time.

Every Thursday from 7:30 PM to whenever, on thy 145.470 ,come join us !!
